NEW TRANSPORTATION FEE AND LAW ENFORCEMENT CHARGE
The Village of Harrison has approved the addition of a transportation fee and law enforcement charge to be placed upon tax bills starting in 2018.

Transportation Fee:
The transportation fee was instituted to cover the cost of streets and road maintenance. The Village of Harrison has 100 miles of road that need yearly reconstruction and maintenance. The cost to reconstruct four (4) miles of road is approximately $1.3 million. In the past, the Village has either paid 100% of these costs or, in recent years, assessed for these costs.
Many residents have been upset at having to come up with $8,000 - $10,000 in assessment costs and have asked for another way to cover the costs of these projects. In response, the Village Board approved the addition of a transportation fee.  This fee is placed upon all improved parcels located in the Village of Harrison to cover the cost of reconstruction and/or road maintenance projects to help offset or alleviate any possible street or road assessments.

Law Enforcement Charge:
The law enforcement charge was approved to cover the cost of law enforcement services. Currently, the Village of Harrison contracts with Calumet County to provide one officer to cover law enforcement services within the village.
Due to the Village of Harrison’s population growth, starting in 2019, the Village of Harrison will be contracting with Calumet County to provide a total of three officers to provide law enforcement coverage within the village.  The cost to provide these three officers is an additional $300,000.00. The law enforcement charge will help offset these increased costs.
