PRESS RELEASE

Village of Harrison, Calumet County, Wisconsin

An article in the March 6, 2024 edition of the Times-Villager covered activity of the February 27 Village Board meeting in the Village of Harrison. The article contained some factual inaccuracies that should be corrected. The article reports the Village broke its own rules of operation by taking formal action on a topic during public comment. This is inaccurate. The formal action occurred on the agenda item “School Zone Crossing Guards “ which was properly noticed under “New Business for Discussion, Consideration, and/or Action.” As permitted by state statute, Robert’s Rules of Order and the Village’s own Board rules, the order of items on an agenda can be changed at any time during the meeting by formal action. The Harrison Village Board properly received a motion, a second and unanimous vote to move the crossing guard agenda item to the top of the agenda before public comment. Once that was complete the Board was free to take formal action on the crossing guard item. Finally, public input on the agenda item expressed a desire to continue busing which the Village Board supported.

Please contact Village Manager Matt Heiser with any questions.
